What is Nightmare Vermont?
Nightmare Vermont is a thrilling, interactive haunted house that has run in underground spaces, and as part of other events since 2004. It has garnered a reputation for cinema-level visual effects, engaging characters, and wild Halloween fun put on by its all-volunteer cast and crew. Come see scrappy evil geniuses team up with community leaders to bring you Vermont’s most exciting and unique event.
What will happen to me at Nightmare?
After parking your car, you’ll go to the ticket booth to the right of the grandstand stairs where you will show your printed or smartphone ticket, and we’ll assign you to a group time for the hour-long show. Walk up the stairs to the second floor of the grandstand to enjoy the entry ghouls, vendors, and music while you wait for your group time.
Step in line in time for the group time on your ticket and join a group of 16 to make your way through the theatrical haunted show. You’ll need to make your way with your group through a maze creepy rooms where scenes of mayhem and horror occur, and escape the evil lurking within to return to the upstairs. Exit through the gift shop.
Please beware that strobe lights, foggers, and trip hazards are in our event.
Can my company/team/group get a discount?
Yes! Contact tickets@nightmarevermont.org to inquire about our group and non-profit rates.
Can I get involved in Nightmare?
YES. We’re taking volunteers for Makeup Crew, Tech Crew, and Scare Actor positions. Pick your nights to volunteer. Visit our Volunteer page to sign up. If your business would like to sell bulk tickets, has materials you would like to donate, or if you would like to sponsor the event, please contact us!
My ticket says 7pm. When should I arrive? When will I get in?
Groups enter Nightmare’s theatrical show about every 8 minutes. If your ticket says 7pm, you’ll get into the theatrical show sometime between 7pm and 7:55pm, depending on how early you arrive. Because groups of 16 enter the event every eight minutes, you need to present yourself at the ticket table with ALL members of your party. Otherwise, you may not be placed in the same group. This is a complex, live show with special effects and an all-volunteer cast and crew. Due to unforeseen circumstances of bringing you this live experience, the event may run late, and we can’t delay a group to wait for any patron.
What is the Extra Bloody Show?
The last shows of the last night are our Extra Bloody performances. Patrons of these shows should be prepared to get wet, get gross stuff on them, and get dirty. Do not wear any clothing that can’t be ruined. Wear a poncho. This show often take extra time to set up, so be prepared for our line actors to entertain you while we re-set the show to Extra Bloody mode.
Will this event be too scary for me?
Parental guidance is strongly suggested for anyone under 13. The event is not for young children, as there are scary moments, blood, mayhem, adult language, and adult themes. However, Nightmare is not a gross-out slasher event, it is a thrilling story. Expect to be startled and creeped, but mostly expect a good show. You don’t need to be a fan of horror to enjoy Nightmare Vermont. If you are concerned about being upset at the content in the show, check out our Trigger Warnings and know that you can ALWAYS yell “safeword!” and someone will lead you out of the event. We want you to have a good time! So take care of yourself if some topics or actions may be upsetting for you.
What if I hate scary stuff in my personal space?
If you are new to Nightmare, or your crazy friends are dragging you here, you can purchase Ghost Wards for $1 before you go into the event. Ghost Wards are special necklaces that render you invisible to every character in the event. No one will approach you or menace you if you are wearing a Ghost Ward, and know that you can ALWAYS yell “safeword!” and someone will lead you out of the event. Just DON’T get them confused with Teasers, which will have the opposite effect. Only one Teaser is auctioned off per group and you will have to sign a waiver. If you are wearing a Ward, take care NOT to hang it on to the arm of your friend for dear life who is wearing a Teaser!
The show is about 45-60 minutes. You may wait in our lobby area for your group’s timeslot.
What equipment do I need?
While is an entirely indoor event, please keep in mind that this event takes place in Vermont, in October in an unheated building. It is also a walk-through event, so comfortable shoes are needed. You may also need to run from evil hordes, or get splattered with some kind of fluid, so we don’t recommend your silken delicates or elaborate hats. If you feel safer wearing Kevlar body armor, we’ll understand. Please DO NOT bring full face masks or fake weapons.
Is Nightmare Vermont handicapped accessible?
Unfortunately, mostly not. The show itself is through tight spaces and uneven ground. The route of the show involves going up and down several flights of stairs while keeping up with your group. A portion of the show is inaccessible by wheelchair. While we will try to provide an interpreter, many of the show’s effects depend on sudden sounds. Because we’re all volunteers, we may not be able to adjust enough of the show to accommodate sensory sensitivities.
We MAY be able to work out accommodations if requested well ahead and if the timing of your visit is flexible. We would love to talk to you AT LEAST a couple weeks in advance at info@nightmarevermont.org. We can’t guarantee that we can get everything right, but we would love to do our best for you!!
